Actress Sues IMDB for $1 Million for Revealing Her Age

An actress, who has chosen to remain anonymous, is suing IMDB and Amazon for posting her age on their websites. The lawsuit states that “in the entertainment industry, youth is king” and by divulging her age, the sites cost her acting jobs.

The woman, who is of Asian descent, filed the suit in Seattle and believes that IMDB and Amazon got her age after she signed up for IMDB Pro, using her credit card to get her personal information.

The complaint states:

“If one is perceived to be ‘over-the-hill,’ i.e. approaching 40, it is nearly impossible for an up-and-coming actress, such as the Plaintiff, to get work as she is thought to have less of an ‘upside’ thereforecastingdirectors, producers, directors, agents/managers, etc. do not give her the same opportunities, regardless of her appearance and talent.”

The woman contacted IMDB to remove her age, but the site refused. As a result, she is now demanding punitivedamagesof at least $1 million, plus a restraining order against IMDB.

Vampires Leave Chicago “In The Dust”

I know, I know. The genre is getting played out.

Vampires may have indeed overstayed their welcome throughout the past few years, but a big screen adaptation of a forthcoming graphic novel just might be fresh enough to make the overexposed monsters feel fresh again

Solipsist Films has picked up the rights to George Mahaffey and Christian Duce’s upcoming graphic novel In the Dust says Heat Vision.

Set in the “Dust Bowl” era of the 1930s, the story follows a G-Man investigating the disappearances of entire families from small towns during black blizzards ( a slight ripoff of 30 Days of Night I suppose) , uncovering the existence of an army of vampires that are using them as cover to ravage the countryside.

The agent then teams up with remnants of Al Capone’s gang to save Chicago when the vampires set their sights on the city. Mahaffey will adapt the script while Stephen L’Heureux will produce.

Other than brilliantly conceived (and hopefully masterfully executed) Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter I can’t think of a vampire flick that has got my juices going more than the sound of this one.

No director has been attached just yet, but here’s to hoping it’s someone who can give it that Road to Perdition look while keeping up the requisite action/suspense  tone that any good vampire flick needs to succeed.

The Zombieland sequel will instead be a TV show

Thanks to the sky high ratings (The Andrew Lincoln starrer based on the long-running zombie comic series by Robert Kirkman, shattered demo ratings for two key metrics: the advertiser-coveted adults 18-49 and adults 25-54, attracting 7.3 million viewers) of the premiere of The Walking Dead, zombies now apparently equal cash, and that’s enough to get Fox to move on the concept.

Fox is developing a half hour comedy show based on ZOMBIELAND, which, evidently, was actually supposed to be a TV show when it was first concieved, according to the writers.

“We always thought [it should be a TV series]. If you watch the movie with that in mind, you will see some remnants of the television show. We have the ‘Zombie Kill of the Week,’ which was always intended to happen every week. The movie ends on a cliffhanger; it doesn’t have a real resolution.”

Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick would write, and the 2012-13 season is the theoretical airtime. If this happens, it would scuttle the proposed theatrical sequel.

The serial TV format offers obvious possibilities for other similar recurring ideas. While there’s no chance that the show would end up with any of the leads from the film in the main cast, various guest stars might be able to show up in living and/or dead format.

I don’t know if I can see this baby flying on Fox itself..but FX on the other hand might be the perfect venue for it. All we can do is wait and see.

Ok, after this 8 kajillion straight-to-dvd “sequels” the real thing is back (and hopefully better than the last couple of efforts:

And THIS has Tom Hardy, whom I have a ton of faith in. Plus Chris Pine. Dude has range. Anyone who can do everything from Princess Diaries 2 to Star Trek to Smokin’ Aces without making a complete fool of their ass is alright by me:

Casting news for “Justified” & “Game of Thrones”

The British series Downton Abbey took home an Emmy last month, and now one its actresses is heading to HBO. EW has word that Rose Leslie has landed a role on Game of Thrones. The actress is said to play Ygritte, a Wilding woman that Jon Snow meets during during his adventures beyond the Wall.

The character is described as strong-willed, witty, skilled in battle and survival in the wilderness. An unconventional beauty, skinny but strong with red hair (which the Wildlings consider ‘kissed by fire’).” Likely this means she won’t return to the aforementioned PBS drama, but that fact hasn’t been made clear just yet.

On the Justified front we have this bit of news.  Neal McDonough and Mykelti Williamson, a.k.a. Bubba from Forrest Gump, have been cast as primary villains in season three of the show (which I love, by the way).

The two actors both were featured in the canceled NBC drama Boomtown awhile back, but now Neal McDonough and Mykelti Williamson are teaming with that shows executive producer Graham Yost on his current series Justified starring Timothy Olyphant.

EW reports the two actors will play two villains on the third season of the FX drama with McDonough playing Quarles, a Detroit mobster in a sharp suit who comes to Kentucky with visions of becoming a crimelord and Williamson playing Limehouse, a man who lives in a small black town in Harlan County and who will do whatever it takes, legal or otherwise, to protect his holler.

The two characters are said to show up pretty early in the season which is slated to begin sometime in January. The show has been praised with some Emmy love, including a nomination for Timothy Olyphant and win for Margo Martindale last month, so here’s hoping they keep the momentum in the new season.

AMC’S “BREAKING BAD” BREAKS RECORDS BY GROWING MORE THAN ANY OTHER SEASON 4 DRAMA IN BASIC CABLE HISTORY FOR ADULTS 18-49*

New York – October 10, 2011 – “Breaking Bad,” which premiered its season four finale last night, ranks as the most engaging series on television according to Nielsen’s IAG, which measures program engagement and ad effectiveness.

AMC premiered the season four finale of “Breaking Bad” to record rating results. Season four reigns as the series’ highest rated season to date, growing 24% over season three for Adults 18-49, the most for any drama series in basic cable history. Last night’s episode scored a 1.4 HH rating attracting 1.9 million viewers. Across the evening, all three airings (10pm, 11pm, 1am) delivered 2.9 million viewers and 1.8 million Adults 18-49. In August, AMC announced the final 16 episodes to conclude “Breaking Bad.”

AMC also experienced its best season ever for the ’10/’11 season in sales prime delivery of Adults 18-49 and Adults 25-54 increasing +9% and +8% respectively vs. last season.

Ratings Highlights below:

  • all three airings (10pm, 11pm, midnight) delivered 2.9 million viewers and 1.8 million Adults 18-49
  • season 4 averaged 1.9 million viewers, a 23% increase vs. S3
  • “Breaking Bad” season 4 also averaged over 1 million Adults 18-49 and Adults 25-54, +24%/+21% vs. Season 3
  • “Breaking Bad” season 4 garnered its strongest increases among younger viewers, growing its Adult 18-34 audience +42% over last season.

“Bad is so good. Thank you Vince Gilligan; what a season and what a finale. Few entertainment experiences move audiences the way ‘Breaking Bad’ does, consistently. The audience growth from season three to season four is unprecedented for any drama in basic cable history and now it has been named the most engaging program across all of television by Nielsen. We can’t wait to share with fans what’s next in the White house,” said Charlie Collier, AMC’s president.

Over four seasons, “Breaking Bad” has been heralded as one of the best TV dramas on television.

New York Magazine said, “There’s no other show like it.” Newsweek said, “Breaking Bad’ is as addictive as the meth cooked by its cancer-stricken lead character, and just as insidious. It’s also TV’s finest hour.” People said, “The show has evolved into a modern underworld Western – there’s nothing else like it.” Variety said, “Either appropriately or ironically for a show about meth cookers, “Bad” is simply one of TV’s great addictions.”

“Breaking Bad” stars Emmy(R) Award-winner Bryan Cranston as Walter White; Emmy(R) Award-winner Aaron Paul as Jesse Pinkman; Anna Gunn as Skyler White; Dean Norris as Hank Schrader; Betsy Brandt as Marie Schrader; RJ Mitte as Walter, Jr; Bob Odenkirk as Saul Goodman; Giancarlo Esposito as Gus Fring; and Jonathan Banks as Mike. “Breaking Bad” is filmed on location in Albuquerque, NM.

The series first premiered on AMC in January 2008 and follows protagonist Walter White, a milquetoast high school chemistry teacher who lives in New Mexico with his wife, teenage son who has cerebral palsy and a new baby girl. White is diagnosed with Stage III cancer and given a prognosis of two years left to live.

With a new sense of fearlessness based on his medical prognosis, and a desire to gain financial security for his family, White chooses to enter a dangerous world of drugs and crime and ascends to power in this world. The series explores how a fatal diagnosis such as White’s releases a typical man from the daily concerns and constraints of normal society and follows his transformation from mild-mannered family man to a kingpin of the drug trade.

“Breaking Bad” has received sixteen Emmy(R) Award nominations in the following categories: “Outstanding Drama Series” (2009, 2010); “Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series” for Bryan Cranston (2008, 2009, 2010); “Outstanding Supporting Actor” for Aaron Paul (2009, 2010); “Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series” for Vince Gilligan (2008) and Michelle MacLaren (2010); “Outstanding Cinematography for a one-hour series” for John Toll (2008) and Michael Slovis (2009, 2010); “Outstanding Sound Editing for a Series;” “Outstanding Single Picture Camera Editing for a Drama Series” for Lynne Willingham (2008, 2009) and Skip McDonald (2010); with six wins overall for Cranston (2008, 2009, 2010); Paul (2010); and Willingham (2008, 2009).

“Breaking Bad” is produced by High Bridge Productions, Inc. and Gran Via Productions in association with Sony Pictures Television for AMC. Executive Producers are Vince Gilligan, Mark Johnson, and Michelle MacLaren; Co-Executive Producers Melissa Bernstein and Sam Catlin; Supervising Producers Peter Gould, George Mastras, and Tom Schnauz; Producers Moira Walley-Beckett, Bryan Cranston, and Diane Mercer; Produced By Stewart A. Lyons; Associate Producer Andrew Ortner, Staff Writer Gennifer Hutchison; and Director of Photography Michael Slovis.
